In the individual girls' event, Bridget Carter from Southland Girls' High School had the fastest combined time of 78.95 over two runs. Natalie Allan's second fastest time of 79.05 helped her school to victory and Ella Spittle from Otago Girls' High took third with 80.07.
Mount Aspiring College also took victory in the boys' event thanks to Sam Austin's first place run of 79.95. John McGlashan came second while Otago Boys' High School took third. Michael Pettit of John McGlashan had the second fastest individual time with 80.41 while another Mount Aspiring College pupil, Luke Blennerhassett came third in 82.35.
"The girls were really flying today with both Bridget and Natalie going faster than the best boys' time," said Cardrona spokesperson, Nigel Kerr. "They all coped well with the cold conditions and all the recent snow we've had ensured the course was in great condition."
