Free Ski Nationals Skier-X

Free Ski Nationals Skier-X

A fast and furious line up of the country’s top free skiers, together with competitors from Austria, Japan, Canada and the UK, took on Cardrona’s challenging gravity-x course today in the skier-x discipline of the New Zealand Free Ski Nationals.

Following his success in the weekend’s big mountain discipline, Geoff Small from Huntly continued his winning streak with first place in the men’s open after narrowly avoiding a mass pile up that claimed the three remaining finalists. In the junior male, Misha Weston from Central Otago took out first place and in the youth male, Matt Soundy from Wanaka was victorious.

The girls also skied hard with Phillipa Greig taking out first place in the open women’s. The Wanaka girls did well in the younger age groups with Sarah Gilliespie coming first in the junior female and Harriet Fyfe in the youth female.

The NZ Free Ski Nationals continue at Cardrona on 4 September with the Slopestyle in the Heavy Metal Terrain Park.
