Tango Virtuosi bring the passion of the tango
Hello hello!
Next month Tango Virtuosi tour New Zealand through Chamber Music New Zealand's Associate Societies. Tango Virtuosi will bring the "alluring, seductive, colourful, romantic and passionate" flavour of the tango.
Attached and below is the media release with details of the group and the tango. Just let me know if you're after an interview with a member of the group and I'll arrange.
I'll be in touch soon regarding details of our 2005 artists and upcoming tour with the lovely boys from the Vienna Piano Trio.
TANGO VIRTUOSI RELEASE
MEDIA RELEASE: Tango Virtuosi bring the passion of the tango For immediate release / 21 September 2004 / 393 words
You can experience the passion and excitement of the tango with a dynamic group of musicians when they perform in twelve centres throughout New Zealand.
As the name suggests, Tango Virtuosi like to combine the excitement of the tango with challenging virtuosic styles. The group enjoy the complicated and difficult style of the tango that pushes them to their technical limits.
Tango Virtuosi consists of Deborah Rawson, clarinet, Jeremy Fitzsimons, marimba, Simon Brew, alto saxophone and Owen Moriarty, guitar.
Deborah describes the musical style of the repertoire as "art tango", explaining that audiences can expect the old sexy and simple style of traditional tangos fused with a modern sophistication and retro spin.
She emphasises that all music lovers will enjoy the show. The repertoire is "serious music that is completely of the tango flavour. It¹s alluring, seductive, colourful, romantic and passionate", explains Deborah, "if the audience have got a bit of blood in their veins they¹ll be dancing in the aisles!"
Experienced as a performer and teacher, Deborah has been instrumental in setting up of some of New Zealand¹s best known chamber music groups, such as the Zelanian Ensemble, Saxcess and Tango Virtuosi.
Jeremy plays regularly with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Gareth Farr¹s Drumdrag and also performs solo percussion recitals. Jeremy is a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington and also Northwestern University in Chicago.
Simon completed his Bachelor of Music in Classical Saxophone at Massey University's Conservatorium of Music in Wellington and has just been offered a scholarship for postgraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester.
Owen has toured extensively with guitar quartet Totally Plucked and is Assistant Guitar Tutor at Massey University. He recently completed a solo tour for Chamber Music New Zealand.
Deborah¹s mission statement in life is to take the charm and magic of chamber music and to make it accessible to as wide an audience as possible. She explains "I came to music quite late in life, so I know what it¹s like to love music, but not know a lot about it. Chamber music is the love of my life music has changed my life completely and I¹d like to share it."
The Tango Virtuosi concerts promise to be just that. As Deborah explains, "we love the music. We¹re all party animals!"
Chamber Music New Zealand acknowledges major funding from Creative New Zealand.
