Strong Season For Cardrona Alpine Resort

Strong Season For Cardrona Alpine Resort

The gates closed on Cardrona Alpine Resort today bringing to an end a successful season marked by consistently good snow from start to finish.

³It¹s been a very strong year for Cardrona,² said mountain manager, Shaun Gilbertson. ³The snow conditions were great and the new high speed Whitestar Express has been everything we planned it to be, spreading skiers and riders over the mountain and reducing queuing times significantly.²

He went on to say that plans were underway for the double chair removed to make way for the new quad. ³The old double is currently in storage and we are looking at options on how it can be used in the future.² Other notable successes of Cardrona¹s 2004 season were the children¹s programmes and the Heavy Metal and Playzone Terrain Parks. ³

The kids¹ programmes proved incredibly popular with both New Zealanders and overseas visitors making the most of Cardrona¹s unique facilities and approach to children¹s instruction,² said Gilbertson. ³The plentiful snow has allowed the terrain park to evolve over the season into New Zealand¹s longest park with a huge variety of quality features.

The feedback we received from riders was excellent.² Cardrona also played host to a number of high profile events including the Burton New Zealand Open and the New Zealand Free Skiing Nationals, benefiting from the international facilities the resort features.
