Hand drawn sketch by Sir Edmund Hillary to be auctioned
A hand drawn sketch by Sir Edmund Hillary depicting him climb Mt Everest is one of the many pieces of artwork generously donated as part of a silent charity auction to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Auckland.
Other items of interest are the hand written poem by New Zealand icon poet Hone Tuwhare and the beautifully presented Sir Tristram Horse Shoe in gold, donated by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan.
Over 80 well known local artists have also donated generously for the event.
The charity silent auction is being held from 10am-6pm on 18-20 October at the Pukekohe town hall.
A gold coin donation is required for entry and bidder registration, with registered bidders then able to phone in with bids.
Charity Silent Auction organiser Kevin Kneebone, Sergeant of Police, Area Youth and Community based in Franklin, has high hopes for the auction.
“We’re hoping for a big turnout because all funds from the auction go to Ronald McDonald House Auckland, which is currently raising money for a major project,” says Sgt Kneebone.
“After 10 years providing a ‘home away from home’ to more than 3,000 families with sick children, Ronald McDonald House Auckland must double in size.”
The House, which was opened in 1994, can currently accommodate 26 families and is full to capacity nearly every night. Funds from the charity auction will go towards this fantastic project.
Donations can be sent to Ronald McDonald House Auckland, Freepost 108064, Private Bag 93-232, Parnell.
