Symphonic Rockers return
Following the overwhelming success of Symphonic Rock last year, the Auckland Philharmonia returns with Symphonic Rock ’04, the final concert in the orchestra’s 2004 Telecom Pops series.
On Saturday 6 November a line-up of New Zealand’s hottest stage performers join the Auckland Philharmonia to present great moments in rock music, from the ’60s until today. This year the repertoire, arranged by Auckland’s ace arranger Penny Dodd, has been widened to include classic Kiwi rock – the music of Split Enz, Dave Dobbyn, The Crocodiles, Nurture, Sharon O’Neill, and the latest single from Phil Madsen will rock alongside favourites from Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Blood Sweat & Tears, The Beatles, Joe Cocker, Queen, Coldplay, U2, Michael Jackson and John Farnham.
As well as the spellbinding voice of Phil Madsen, the concert features three of the country’s finest female rock talents – Jackie Clarke, Tina Cross and Taisha Kuhtze, plus a legendary figure in New Zealand rock history and the front-man from ’60s band Larry’s Rebels, Larry Morris.
Dynamic music, hot singers and a classy 70-piece band – that’s Symphonic Rock!
SYMPHONIC ROCK ’04 Saturday 6 November – 8pm, Aotea Centre Adult tickets $30-$75; concessions available (service fees may apply). Phone the Ticketek Orchestra Hotline on 307 5139.
