Iwi Radio Broadcasts Exclusive Katchafire
‘Live-To-Air’
Maori radio stations nationwide have been invited to broadcast an exclusive live-to-air performance by reggae act Katchafire – the first time a top New Zealand band has debuted material from their album prior to release in a live simulcast.
The eight-piece will perform new music from its upcoming second album ‘Slow Burning’ in a one-hour show from 8pm to 9pm on Tuesday, November 16, at the WINTEC studio in Hamilton. The broadcast – which is supported by local iwi station Radio Tainui – is being staged two weeks before the album is officially released by Ngati Whatua-owned record label Mai Music.
Mai Music general manager Victor Stent says the exclusive simulcast reflects the band’s respect for the iwi radio network which has given so much support to Katchafire’s recording career. Each station has been sent a promotional pack including pre-recorded radio advertisements – which they can tag and put to air immediately – plus mini-posters and several copies of the band’s double-platinum debut album ‘Revival’ to use as listener giveaways.
Iwi stations are also being invited to solicit requests and dedications from their listeners for a favourite song from ‘Revival’ and each will go in the draw for the band to play as a special live-to-air dedication during the show. The three winners whose songs are selected for the broadcast will also receive a personalized autographed copy of the ‘Slow Burning’ CD sent to them on the day of the album release.
