The New Zealand Improvised Music Charitable Trust is presenting in early 2005 Wednesday night concerts showcasing contemporary aural art, ranging from experimental electronics to classical composition, from free jazz to turntablism.
This is the second series of Flaming Anvil concerts. The first was hosted by the legendary Anthony Donaldson and featuring some of the country’s finest musicians, including 175 East, David Long, Richard Nunns, Waimihi Hotere, Jeff Henderson, Alphabethead, and Ricki Gooch.
This series is presented by musician Craig Taylor. Taylor has been involved in the Wellington music scene since 1997 to study Music Composition at Victoria University. After graduating he has become heavily involved in the Wellington experiemtnal and improvised music scene, especially at Newtown venue, The Space, producing and performing in a wide range of events. These included mod-con/de-con, a festival of music and art using toys and appliances, a series of performance art collaborations with Korean dancer/video artist U J Lee, and the legendary fringe show The Lunatic Cabaret. Craig’s recent projects include The Elephant Men, FOOD, DELETE!, and the Not Quite Quiet Choir.
Taylor is uniquely qualified to present the first series of the next series of Nights of the Flaming Anvil.
Nights of the Flaming Anvil will continue throughout 2005 under a variety of curators with a focus on contemporary music, the avant-garde and explorative music.
