Over the Rainbow, Pound and the Gay and
Lesbian Fair
Friday 28 January
February and March are shaping up to be filled with queer events in the capital, with Gorgeous, a pride party at Pound, and the Gay and Lesbian Fair.
And, 2006 maybe even more studded with glittering Wellington events.
The organisers of both Gorgeous and the Gay and Lesbian Fair are proposing to work together to plan a big gay week for 2006.
Fair organiser Jeff Montgomery said people were welcome to come along and discuss their ideas over drinks at Pound, 6pm Wednesday 23 February.
“We will have an informal chat over drinks just to throw a few ideas around about what everyone would like to have happen next year.
“It would be great to see some other people from the community there to share their thoughts.”
Gorgeous organiser Sarah Helm said their event had been planned as a once off.
“However, we’ve had a great response from the community.
“And, we hope to use some of the youthful energy involved in Gorgeous to ensure Wellington has a range of events in the future.”
It would be good if a variety of people from the community got involved, she said.
“Pound have now announced that they plan to hold a party on the night of Gorgeous.
“So we’ll be playing all day at Gorgeous, and partying all night at Pound on February 19.”
Pound owner Mal Vaughan said the pride party on the Saturday 19 February would feature shows including the Goldern Girls and Mia Slapper.
Mr Montgomery said there was also likely to be other social events at the time of the fair this year.
The Fair is being held from 10am-4pm (wet or fine) on Saturday 12 March at Newtown School, he said.
