Southern Traverse 2004 to broadcast on TVNZ
New Zealand's icon adventure race the Southern Traverse returned to wilderness style racing in November last year when the event was staged on the South Island's rugged West Coast.
A course of 431 kms through a mix of bush and native rain forest, wild beaches and rivers, alpine ridges and stunning scenery was the ultimate challenge for the 26 national and international teams.
Watch local Team Kathmandu and the American/Kiwi team GoLite Timberland as they travel head to head throughout the race swapping the lead. It wasn't until the final stages of the daunting Alexander Range where the winners of the Southern Traverse 2004 finally stamped their mark on the race.
Reported as an extremely tough course, made much harder by the stormy snow, rain and sleet weather, provided the conditions for an exciting six-day non stop adventure race.
This event is all about taking competitors to the limit and beyond and that's something the wild and rugged West Coast certainly did. Don't miss the one hour documentary to be screened on TV One this Saturday (12 February) on TV One, at 3.30pm.
The documentary will also be screened on SKY during March, dates to be confirmed. Copies on dvd and video will also be available.
