Side-Splitting Vaudeville Talent At AK05 Festival
The slapstick vaudeville talents of Theatre Beating come to The Civic with a show specially created for AK05.
THE EDGE® and Theatre Beating, in association with Citymix, present Join Us at Rick’s at AK05 Festival Club in the Winter Garden, The Civic from February 25 to March 4.
A third instalment in the adventures of Toot and Collins - the underlectual brilliantries at the heart of cult hits Happy Hour for Miserable Children and The Magic Chicken – Join Us At Rick’s features bizarre absurdities, crazy stunts and slapstick humour.
Created by Theatre Beating’s Trygve Wakenshaw and Barnie Duncan together with a cast of 30, including well known comedians Dai Henwood and Jackie van Beek, live band The Hot Grits and a troupe of voodoo can-can dancing girls, Join Us At Rick’s tells the story of how Toot (Duncan) and Collins (Wakenshaw) meet.
Part theatre, part vaudeville, part travelling freak show, Join Us at Rick’s is a clap-your-hands-a-rama ride through a music hall amusement park.
Theatre Beating was established 18 months ago and is fast gaining a reputation for its original and innovative comedy.
Their debut show, Happy Hour For Miserable Children introduced Toot and Collins and won Best Comedy at the Fringe New Zealand Festival 2004 and was followed by critically-acclaimed The Magic Chicken, a children’s show, again featuring the inept stars Toot and Collins.
Join Us at Rick’s is at the AK05 Festival Club in the Winter Garden, The Civic, THE EDGE® from Friday 25 February to Friday 4 March at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Ticketek, ph: (09) 307-5000 or online at http://www.ticketek.com
