NZ's own documentary film festival

With the increasing popularity of the documentary genre around the world, it is timely that New Zealand will now host its own competitive documentary film festival. Dan Shanan and Alex Lee of the DOCNZ Festival Trust, are excited to announce the establishment of DOCNZ International Documentary Film Festival, the only international documentary film festival in Australasia. The inaugural DOCNZ 2005 will be held at Auckland’s Academy Cinema, 15- 28 September 2005.

A competitive festival for local documentary film-makers, DOCNZ 2005 will also screen works produced internationally and hopes to join forces with the bi-annual national documentary conference, in 2006. The festival will be a first class cultural event celebrating our world’s diversity and talents. Our mission statement is to promote documentary filmmaking and make it easily accessible to the public. In addition to the screenings, the festival will also hold other events such as a media launch, an opening night gala, seminars, lectures, a market place and more.

DOCNZ 2005 is open to all documentary makers from around the world, and we are now seeking entries of films to screen in our program. We welcome both feature length and short documentary films. Contest entry to the DOCNZ 2005 is free of charge and the deadline for all submissions for consideration by the selection committee is 30 April 2005.

The preferred screening format is digital. All films selected must have English subtitles if the original language is not English. To download the entry form and guidelines, please visit www.docnzfestival.com

All screeners must be marked “Sample – No commercial value” on the envelope and sent to: Programming DOCNZ Festival Trust
