Shanghai Quartet (US)

The Shanghai Quartet returns to New Zealand to perform as part of the Celebrity Season. Described by international media as musicians who give “the kind of performance composers dream of”, the quartet presents an ‘east meets west’ fusion of Chinese and Western works.

New Zealand Community Trust Chamber Music Contest

New Zealand’s only national chamber music competition for young musicians and composers celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

Groups from 14 regions nationwide will compete in District Contest events in June*. Up to eight groups will then be selected by the adjudicators to compete in the prestigious National Final in Auckland on Saturday 6 August 2005.

Distinctive and energetic duo Vivo perform the seductive music of the Tango, pieces from the Renaissance, Russian Folk tunes and a dose of Gypsy and Baroque music.

With the unusual combination of Miranda Adams on violin and Tatiana Lanchtchikova on accordion and piano, Vivo have selected a myriad of styles to suit all music fans.

‘Ogen’ is the Bulgarian word for fire and best describes the Ogen Trio’s performances. Described by media as inspirational, magical, enormously intense and energetic, the trio’s chosen name aptly reflects their musical dynamic.

The Ogen Trio have become well established as one of New Zealand’s leading piano trios.
