Skallander: The Camels

LOOP Recordings and Involve are pleased to introduce the debut "The Camels" by Skallander.

While there is a tendency for lesser-known artists to get lost within the heavy saturation of releases during New Zealand Music Month, this little jem has been turning the heads of the NZ music elite. A refreshing mix of glitch, ambient, and downbeat influences, this aetheric collaboration between Matthew Mitchell (ex-Wellington jazz scene, lately Hungarian media mogul) and Bevan Smith (of Aspen, Signer, Marineville fame) is in a class of its own.

New York City. A poet, novelist and musician. Friend of RZA. Drawing his otherworldly orchestrations and beats from gospel, Tibetan chants, Cuban rhythms, Miles Davis-infused jazz and New York-style hip hop. Welcome to Carl Hancock Rux.

Rux delivers an original voice: "This album is eclectic because black music has always been eclectic. (...) Music is a vibration. Sound just sort of vibrates - so it's a flow. It's continuous, it happens. There will be always this vibration. It was here before we were here, and it's going to be here when we 're not here. The Black Seeds head across the Tasman again this weekend for their third Australian tour. The five-gig tour includes shows in Melbourne, Brisbane, Byron Bay and Sydney. The band will also be releasing 'On the Sun' in Australia later in 2005 through LOOP Recordings and Shock Records.

B-Net Congratulations!

The 2005 B-Net Awards were held at the Auckland Town Hall on Friday 27th May. With twelve award nominations next to LOOP's name we had high hopes for the evening, and were stoked to receive the following two awards:

Best Compilations Album: LOOP Select 006: KONO Best Pop Album: Barnaby Weir: Fly My Pretties.

The evening was also made all the more special with an epic ten-minute rendition of Let's Roll by Barnaby Weir (The Black Seeds), Nato (Paselode), Sam Flynn Scott (The Phoenix Foundation), and Brendon Moran (The Hasselhoff Experiment)

Big respect and thanks go to all of the Wellington contingent who made it to the awards. For the first time Wellington established itself as a musical force to be reckoned with, taking half of the awards on offer.

A&R call for LOOP Select 007

This is an appeal for all musicians, film-makers and 2D artists to submit work for the upcoming LOOP Select 007 scheduled for release in early July.

The response to our initial A&R call has been phenomenal - We've received some incredible stuff across the board and Select 007 is promising to be another huge release. So, no matter what your style or medium, no matter what software or equipment you use, if it's fresh, risky and cutting edge NZ outta-space next level s**t - we will consider it for sure.
