NZ Music In Australia – March/April/May News

You haven’t seen one of these for a while, right? That means there’s plenty to talk about, so let’s jump straight into it:

March

The full Sola Rosa band experience hit the Cockatoo Island festival in Sydney Harbour, with additional shows in Bondi and Melbourne

Fast Crew’s ‘I Got’ continued to sit comfortably in the ARIA Club Chart.

The D4’s ‘What I Want’ was the third most added song at alternative radio, picking up plays on Triple J, and the video being screened on Video Hits Uncut.

P-Money ft Scribe scored good results straight away once ‘Stop The Music’ was released to radio. The song was the 2nd most added song overall at radio, and the most added at nights. Debuting at number 3 on night plays, the song entered the airplay charts at 60.

Evermore’s ‘For One Day’ kept up it’s consistent run on radio and TV. The song continued to sit in the contemporary rock airplay chart’s top 20.

Shihad’s comeback track ‘Alive’ was in the top 20 alternative airplay chart, stirring interest in their album later in the year.

April

Imon Star brought his Murk108/Olmecha Supreme showcase to Sydney and Melbourne.

The Finn Brothers’ ‘Nothing Wrong With You’ was the second most added song on adult contemporary radio, fifth most added at nights, and the 12th most added overall.

‘What I Want’ by The D4 continued to pick up adds at radio and music TV.

The Mint Chicks picked up video plays for ‘Opium For The People’, and released their ‘F**k The Golden Youth’ album.

betchadupa scored radio and video plays for ‘My Army Of Birds And Gulls’. The song reached number 6 on the alternative airplay charts.

Fast Crew’s ‘I Got’ clip was added by a number of Music TV channels and shows, and continued to be picked up at radio

Evermore’s ‘Dreams’ album stayed in the Top 20 chart throughout the month. ‘For One Day’ stayed in both the Top 50 singles and airplay charts.

Sommerset supported Strike Anywhere on three Australian dates before sadly calling it a day.

P-Money ft Scribe’s ‘Stop The Music’ picked up more radio plays, moving from 43 to 34 on the airplay chart over the course of the month. The single entered the charts at number 15. April also saw Scribe’s ‘The Crusader’ album re-enter the Top 50 album chart, and end the month at 39.

Music TV channel DMX added a swag of videos to their playlist, including ‘Chemical Madness’ by Misfits Of Science, Dei Hamo’s ‘This Is My Life’, and ‘NZ To The BK’ by Del Ray System.

Shihad’s next clip ‘All The Young Fascists’ began airing on Music TV.

The Dub Conspiracy Live tour hit Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne over ANZAC weekend, with a lineup including Salmonella Dub, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Concord Dawn, Shapeshifter, Cornerstone Roots, Kora, DLT, Sunshine Soundsystem and Mighty Asterix.

May

‘Stop The Music’ (P-Money ft Scribe) stayed in the top 40 of the airplay charts, and climbed to ninth on the singles chart during May. Scribe’s album sat in the 30s on the album chart for most of the month, going platinum in the process! Scribe embarked on a headline tour, with P-Money also on the bill, towards the end of May.

Momentum continued to build for ‘I Got’ by Fast Crew. It was the seventh most-added song across all radio in the first week of May, entering the airplay charts at 68. Moving into the 40s on the airplay chart throughout the month and scoring highly on the night plays chart, the single was released to retail at the month’s end.

Evermore kept busy with next single ‘Come To Nothing’ hitting radio and music TV. They also prepared to set off on a massive 35 date Australian tour. ‘Dreams’ continued to sit in the Top 40 album chart.

Brooke Fraser made an immediate impact at radio with ‘Lifeline’. It was the fourth most added contemporary rock song in it’s week of release to radio.

The Finn Brothers picked up more radio play with ‘Part Of Me, Part Of You.’ Their album “Everyone Is Here’ was released early May.

Greg Johnson readied his album for release, the video for ‘Save Yourself’ being picked up by music TV.

Shihad supported a couple of big Grinspoon shows, and released their ‘All The Young Fascists’ single to retail. The song was in the Top 20 alternative radio airplay chart.

Salmonella Dub had not one but two Aussie releases – ‘Mercy: The One Drop East remixes and out takes’ and ‘Dub For Straights’.
