June News...
There’s plenty of international activity happening this month. Sugarlicks are venturing overseas in July: Brother J, Maya and label boss G-Muva are heading to Ireland (the Oxegen festival), the UK, Germany and NYC to promote a recent worldwide distribution deal for the label.

Recent returnees include the Grand Central Band (Rhythmworks), who visited Vanuatu for a jazz festival, and pulled great crowds. The Managers have just returned from an Australian tour.

Te Vaka (Warm Earth) have just come home from a very successful tour of Hawaii and are now preparing for a trip to South Korea for the Peace Festival at the end of August. At the beginning of September they will be in Samoa for a massive concert in Apia Park before heading on to Tahiti, Fiji and New Caledonia.

The Trillion album ‘This World and The Sadvipra Diversion’ was released in April in Australia through Melbourne-based hip hop label Obese Records, and sold out of the first shipment in two weeks.

A New Zealand showcase is being staged for the first time on July 9 as part of the Big Sound Music Industry Summit in Brisbane. Artists performing include Kahu Records’ Mo’Reece.

Horrible news came in from the Reduction Agents' mobile North American headquarters. The masters of their forthcoming album were stolen from the Brunettes’ tour van in Montreal, right outside the venue where they were playing with Nada Surf and Rilo Kiley. Lawrence Arabia aka James Milne is a member of both bands and they were on his laptop. They hope it can still be released in September on Lil' Chief Records. We hope so too!

Both Savage singles Swing! and Moonshine have gone platinum, and Savage is featured on the NZ remix of David Banner's new single Ain't Got Nothing (also featuring local newcomer Tyree).

Dawn Raid has signed a deal with Warner Music to distribute the label in Australia; the first album out will be Savage’s ‘Moonshine’. The deal is for Australia only; Dawn Raid will continue to be distributed by Universal in New Zealand. Under the deal Dawn Raid have signed renowned Sydney DJ’s Peter Gunz & Tikelz.

Adeaze share co-writing credits with Scram Jones on Mariah Carey’s song Your Girl (which samples A Life With You), and they are looking forward to future collaborations with the NY producer.

In local news, TMet Recordings are presenting the debut release by DJ Baxter (who was voted New Zealand's no 1 DJ by Metro readers a few years back), and they have just licensed seven tracks for the next High Octane Performance Car DVD release.

Gramsci's album ‘Like Stray Voltage’ is out on Mach(i)ne Recordings June 20th and to celebrate, the band has arranged a month long residency at Galatos Basement every Wednesday in June. Richard Bell (Depeche Mode, U2, Phoenix Foundation) is making the video for All the Time in the World.

Whirimako Black’s new album ‘Kura Huna’, featuring production and performances
by Grammy-nominated musician Russel Walder, has been released by Mai Music.

Baitercell and Schumacher and Shapeshifter are playing July University Orientation shows. The next Baitercell and Schumacher worldwide 12" release is The Bass is Injected, featuring Tuff Enchant (Misfits of Science).

Die! Die! Die! are in the UK for a series of live shows, and the band will be mixing their debut album (recorded in Chicago with Steve Albini back in March) at EMI's Abbey Road Studios with an eye for a July/August release. They will return home to support Shihad, alongside other IMNZ chart favourites Kora.

The Checks’ EP, ‘What You Heard’, is available exclusively as a download from Amplifier.co.nz.

Substax, who have had considerable bNet success to date, have released their long-awaited debut album ‘Electro Soul Plane’ (Sugarlicks). The album features guest spots from Souljah Sist*r, London’s MC Ster, Nick Conner and Katrina Holmberg. The album will be toured with a full video rig later in the year.

Illicit Clothing has released a compilation via Global Routes to commemorate their friend, premier artist Martin Emond. ‘Throw Up Your Goats’ features tracks from Fur Patrol and Cassette's upcoming albums, favourites from Shihad, HLAH, D-Super, Flesh D-Vice and previously unreleased material from Emond's band Flamejob.

This Night Creeps are touring their debut album ‘The Noise of Music’, and they’re supporting Seattle band the Blood Brothers in July, alongside the Mint Chicks. Cold By Winter are supporting Mudvayne's (USA) only New Zealand show at the Studio in Auckland June 28th.
