Scottish Singing Sensation Eddi Reader Features At Applaud The Christchurch Arts Festival
Scottish singing sensation Eddi Reader visits New Zealand in August for a whirlwind tour performing one night only at the “Applaud” Christchurch Arts Festival on August 5 at the Isaac Theatre Royal, as well as at the Taranaki Festival of the Arts and in Wellington.
Best known for performing with the Eurythmics and as part of the hugely successful Fairground Attraction, Eddi has carved a career for herself as a soloist and with her rare blend of meltingly true vocals and romanticism she has become one of popular music’s most thrilling performers.
Known as a passionate performer, Eddi Reader began her performing career in the early 1980s when she travelled around Europe with circus and performance artists before settling in London where she quickly became a sought after session vocalist.
She famously harmonised with Annie Lennox touring with the Eurythmics after her time with successful punk outfit Gang of Four.
It was the short-lived but warmly remembered Fairground Attraction that really brought her into the limelight and to the attention of a much wider audience. The single Perfect and album First of a Million Kisses both topped the British charts.
Eddi has since recorded numerous solo albums and has toured in England, Scotland, Japan, Australia, Spain, the United States and Ireland, collecting rave reviews from every performance.
“By any measure this was a great vocal performance and writing this 36 hours later, I'm still haunted by the sound and emotional depth of Reader's interpretation.” - Michael Tumelty, Glasgow Herald
