The art of China comes to Auckland

Discover elaborate Chinese calligraphy, sculpture, pottery, oil paintings, watercolours and acrylics at an exhibition of work from professional and amateur Chinese artists at the Aotea Centre, 7 – 28 August.

The fourth annual New Zealand Chinese Arts Exhibition aims to help Chinese migrants explore their culture and heritage, while also providing an opportunity for New Zealanders to see some spectacular artworks created by New Zealand Chinese artists.

Organised by the Pacific Culture and Arts Exchange Centre, this year’s exhibition was supported and funded by organisations including the SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust.

Jim He, Chairman of the Pacific Culture and Arts Exchange Centre, says the exhibition is an opportunity to see a range of unique artworks which capture the spirit of China.

“Some of the artworks on display will be on sale, with a portion of the sales being donated to Shan Dan Pei Li School in the Shaan Xi Province and He Ming Qing Primary School in He Bei Province,” says Mr He.

Mr He says that he is delighted by the amount of support gained through funding such as that from the SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust, which granted $2000 towards promotion and programme printing.

The exhibition will be open daily from 9am to 5pm at the Aotea Art Gallery, Aotea Centre, THE EDGE®, central Auckland. There is no entry charge.

Other sponsors and funders of the exhibition include THE EDGE® Community Arts Programme, Creative NZ Communities - Auckland City and Creative NZ Communities - Manukau City.

The SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust was established in 1996, as part of the SKYCITY Ltd Casino licence application process, to provide funds for community and charitable purposes. The Trust focuses on projects related to health and education, tourism and entertainment, arts and culture.
