Festival Counting On National Firm

Festival Counting On National Firm

New Zealand’s first International Documentary Film Festival, has confirmed it has secured a new sponsorship for the event which begins on September 15.

New Zealand’s leading independently-owned accounting firm, Staples Rodway, has signed up as the official provider of accounting services for the festival. The company says the alliance with DOCNZ 2005, which was announced today, is a perfect fit for both parties.

Marketing Manager for Staples Rodway, Dean Vincent, says documentary film making is all about accounting for the facts through film – while Staples Rodway does this from a financial point of view.

“We’re confident New Zealanders will embrace this film festival whole-heartedly. As documentary-filmmaker Patricio Guzman once said ‘A country without documentaries is like a family without a photo album’,” says Mr Vincent.

Staples Rodway will provide a full suite of accounting services to the festival organisers, including helping it set up its accounts with MYOB, reviewing relevant tax legislation, assisting with the application of grants, auditing its accounts and providing ongoing consultancy services throughout the year.

DOCNZ 2005 will be held at Auckland’s Academy Cinema, from September 15-28 and at Wellington’s Paramount Theatre from September 29 to October 5.

The Opening Night’s programme will include the New Zealand premiere of HEROES OF GALLIPOLI - with the Dardanelles expedition filmed by Ellis Ashmead Bartlett & Ernest Brooks in the Anzac beaches area of Gallipoli. This film has been lovingly restored by Weta Digital, a Peter Jackson company.

Festival Director Dan Shanan says, “The audience is in for something special in HEROES OF GALLIPOLI. It has actual front line footage of fighting at Gallipoli, and the film will show for two nights only”

Madeleine Chaleyer from the Australian War Memorial Museum will present the old footage alongside the restored footage from Weta Digital studios, plus lead a discussion on the filmmakers and the work undertaken by the restoration team.

“When I presented this at the [Australian War Memorial Museum] I had about 200 people in the theatre and they were riveted to their seats.” - Madeleine Chaleyer, HEROES OF GALLIPOLI custodian.

Programmes will be distributed through cafes and libraries throughout Auckland and Wellington in the lead up to the festival.

Footnote: Staples Rodway is New Zealand’s leading independently owned accounting firm that provides a full range of intelligent business services to successful New Zealand Businesses. It has offices in Auckland, Hamilton, Christchurch, Napier, New Plymouth and Tauranga.
