Young people living with the effects of cancer benefit from Kiwi generosity
New Zealanders across the country have again generously supported CanTeen, raising $386,150 through the purchases of Pam's milk and bread from PAK'nSAVE, New World, Write Price and Four Square stores during the month of June.
Throughout June, for every loaf of Pam's bread and every litre of Pam's milk sold, 10 cents and five cents respectively was donated to CanTeen.
It is the third year Foodstuffs New Zealand Limited, through the Pam's brand, has supported CanTeen to raise funds for the organisation which works to make a difference for young people with the effects of cancer.
Foodstuffs managing director Tony Carter says the $386,150 raised brings the total raised for CanTeen from the Pam's partnership to more than $1.2 million.
"It has been great to be able to help CanTeen in this way, and I know they are putting the money to tremendously good use, with not only increasing their resources, but also part-funding two paediatric oncology research projects," he says.
CanTeen President, Karen Miller, says the purpose of the research is to improve the quality of life and the outcomes for young people who have had life-saving cancer treatment.
"Because of significant advances in treatment, survival rates are higher than they have ever been but researchers have learned that the effects of cancer treatment may affect a survivor's health many years later."
She says the money raised will help hundreds of young New Zealanders and their families.
