August News...
IMNZ tracks are being played all around the world. iTunes America’s Single of the Week for August 8th was P-Money’s Stop the Music feat Scribe (Dirty). On the same day one million dollars’ ‘Energy State’ (Sugarlicks) was at #5 on the top 100 Jazz albums at Italian iTunes (#98 on the overall chart) and #33 at German iTunes.

And you’ll hear them in the skies – three Katchafire tracks are now on the Jamaican Airlines inflight playlist; you can also hear Katchafire on Air New Zealand’s inflight services, as well as Shapeshifter, The Black Seeds, the Upbeats, the Otautahi Allstars, Dub Asylum, Hirini Melbourne & Richard Nunns, Dan Poynton, OG, Eskimo Squad and Alphrisk.

This month Te Vaka (Warm Earth/King) head to South Korea to perform at the Peace Festival 2005 and Beyond the DMZ before heading to Samoa for 2 stadium performances at Apia Park. In October they will travel to Tahiti for 2 shows and be introduced to Oscar Timaru. In November they’re in Hawaii for the second time this year.

Brother J, Maya and G-Muva (Sugarlicks) played Dublin’s Oxegen Festival, where Nick Seymour of Crowded House fame joined them on stage. Other dates included a Spacific gig at London’s Big Chill bar, the Lovelite bar in Berlin and la Fabrique club in Tokyo – plus the Brother J video Awhi! is being played in all Virgin shops in France! Things are hotting up in the World Battle of the Bands. Heats are running in New Zealand and Singapore this month, with Hong Kong and Singapore finals happening in September.

This Night Creeps (1157) are touring Australia throughout September (including playing a date in Sydney with The Mint Chicks) for the Australian release of ‘The Noise of Music’. Kitsch’s album ‘The Burning Ground’ has just been released, and you can catch their tour right now.

The Brunettes’ album ‘Mars Loves Venus’ (Lil’ Chief) is being released through Reverberation Records in Australia and a new EP, ‘When Ice Met Cream’ is being released here. The group will re-unite for a tour of NZ and Australia at the beginning of 2006. Alec Bathgate is in the US as half of the Tall Dwarfs, who are playing support for Olivia Tremor Control’s final tour.

Savage is making big noises in Australia, Swing is #4 on the ARIA club chart, and the whole Dawn Raid label (Savage, Deceptikonz, Adeaze, Aaradhna, Ill Semantics, DJ Peter Gunz) are playing in Australia’s 4 main cities this month.

The Urban Pacific crew have been on Niue Island shooting a video for their Soul On The Rock project. The ‘Gifted and Maori 2’ album will also be in stores September/October with a tour in September.

Shapeshifter (Truetone) are doing a final national tour before recording their next album (due mid-2006) and touring throughout Europe. Local supports include Kora, Solaa, Open Souls and Ladi6.

Frontline’s debut video Breathe With Me is streaming from www.frontlinemusic.co.nz (and it’s out on CD single September 5). This is the first single from the Frontline album ‘Borrowed Time’, due out on Dirty/FMR later this year.

The forthcoming Trillion album 'The Grey Between Shadow and Shade' is out on She’ll Be Right September 11 and features 33 guest musicians such as Jeremy Taylor, Demarnia Lloyd, Lindon Puffin... and the list goes on! 'Balloon Adventure' by Mestar frontman John White is also out on SBR in September.

Bachelorette’s debut EP (Arch Hill/FMR) is out this month as is Ghostplane’s album ‘Beneath The Sleepy Lagoon’. Ghostplane are practicing for a tour with the reconvened Mestar band in September. David Kilgour will be playing at the Arc Café with Howie Gelb on Friday the 23rd of September.

Whirimako Black (Mai Music) released her fifth album at a special filmed show at Auckland’s Holy Trinity Cathedral this month. Gahu are at Lab Studios in August to record their third album, due out in October/November on Dougal Records. JCK’s (Antenna) new video Freak In The Club is all over your telly at the moment.

Die! Die! Die!’s mini-album (Capital) has been mastered in London’s Abbey Road studios and is due out early September with a national tour to follow. The Fanatics’ Buddy video, shot in Tokyo, is on your screens now.

Lucid 3 (Lupin) are currently in the studio creating the theme and incidental music for a new police drama entitled ‘Interrogation’ currently being made by South Pacific Pictures (Whale Rider, Shortland Street, Mercy Peak, etc). This will air on Prime in early September. Cydel's Luv IZ single has been in the Top 15 most played Kiwi songs on radio for over a month and Beatrootz’ single No DJZ has charted in the Top 40 for 7 weeks, reaching #17. Both tracks will feature on King Music's compilation ‘SupaFresh Vol. 2’ due for release in September/October. Other new releases from King Music are the gospel/Pacific debut album by Annie Puletiuatoa (who is currently performing in USA) and Mt. Vaea Band’s album ‘Mama’ featuring Tha Feelstyle, Julie Ta'ale of Pacific Soul and Sam Cowley-Lupo of NZ idol/Pacific Beat Street.
