MEDIA RELEASE

Dennis Locorriere - The Voice Of Dr Hook

For Immediate Release: 13/09/05 New Zealand Tour Oct-Nov 2005 - On sale 26 September

You may not instantly know the name Dennis Locorriere (Pron: Low-Corr –Air). But rest assured as soon as you hear him sing you will be instantly transported back to the hit making days of Dr Hook. Without reservation he still has one of the finest voices around, impassioned heartbreak and lost innocence…and that’s 19 years after Dr. Hook decided to call it a day.

In 1999, 15 years after he moved to Nashville, Dennis secured yet another platinum album for ‘Dr Hook Love Songs’ CD, accompanied by a major sell-out tour in the UK, Europe and Australia.

Late in 2001 Dennis played several solo shows which were recorded for a triple live CD/DVD box set
‘Live In Liverpool‘. He released a new album ‘Out Of the Dark’ and won new audiences on a major UK tour. In addition, to coincide with his touring activities, a special numbered limited edition solo album was made available aptly titled ‘Alone with Dennis Locorriere’.

Dennis Locorriere is an artist who is, truly, once seen never forgotten. His shows always encompass his greatest hits. ‘The Best of Dr Hook’ recently topped charts all over the world plus with a new solo CD, ‘One Of The Lucky Ones’ (2005), the timing of this latest tour couldn’t be better.

Following his virtual sell-out NZ tour in 2003 Dennis is looking forward to returning to one of his favourite countries in the world on his current international tour. This new show is solo and acoustic, which highlights the perfectly-crafted mix of lyrics and melody that helped create Dr Hook’s classic pop songs the first time round. As Dennis himself says, "In the age of the ‘Pop Idol’ franchise and fleeting celebrity, it's nice to know that people will still turn out in their hundreds to see one man with a guitar and a bunch of songs."

Background information

Dennis’ career story is an enduring one. For over 30 years he’s more than paid his dues. He’s appeared in a movie with Dustin Hoffman. He’s starred in a universally acclaimed one man play written specially for him, ‘The Devil and Billy Markham’, at New York City’s Lincoln Centre.

Dennis has written songs that have been recorded by many successful artists including Bob Dylan, Southside Johnny, Crystal Gayle, BJ Thomas, Olivia Newton-John, Waylon Jennings, Helen Reddy and Willie Nelson.

He has played to over 150,000 people on his own tours. His second solo album ‘One of the Lucky Ones is now released’, he played the main stage at Glastonbury last Summer (successfully following The English National Opera) to rave reviews.

As one of the biggest bands across the world in the seventies and early eighties, Dr Hook’s plaudits are impressive. The band amassed more than 60 gold and platinum records scoring No 1 hits in more than 42 countries. They had massive world-wide success with classics like ‘Sylvia’s Mother’, ‘When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman’, ‘A Little Bit More’ and the original and definitive version of ‘The Ballad Of Lucy Jordan’… and they spent 300 days a year on the road for 15 years.

Taken from a review on his recent UK tour, August 2005:-

“His appearance may have changed a little in two decades but his voice definitely had not. His instantly recognisable, spine-tingling, sexy vocals wowed the audience, most of whom were there because they are ardent fans. With renditions of A Little Bit More, When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman, The Right To Walk Away, and a beautiful song penned for his son's departure to university called Shine Sun. Dennis and acoustic guitar brought back to life the hits of the band.

When Dennis was lead vocalist with Dr Hook he won more that 60 gold and platinum albums, having number one chart hits in more than 42 countries. But this concert was not just about the old. It was about the new - about a talented songwriter and a gifted performer, who delivered two 45-minute slots of eclectic proportions with his signature charisma.”
