Marathon Rally Car Club Application Approved.
New Zealand’s newest motoring organisation, the Marathon Rally Car Club Inc, has had its application for affiliation to Motorsport New Zealand, officially approved.
The announcement comes, after the executive of NZ’s governing body for motor-sport, Motorsport New Zealand, met on Sunday 18th September 2005, to consider the Club’s application.
“Fantastic” is how Marathon Rally Car Club president, Hamilton’s Gary Smith greeted the news when informed. “Now that we have been officially recognised by MSNZ we can proceed, full speed ahead, with the planing for our major event, the NZ Silver Fern Rally”.
The MSNZ affiliation gives the NZ Silver Fern Rally organisers the support of the governing body and also the opportunity to work with all of the South Island Car Clubs to create an event worthy of recognition in New Zealand, and around the world.
Smith said that it has always been the Marathon Rally Car Club’s intention for the NZ Silver Fern Rally to compliment other rallying in the South Island, and to date, meetings with many of the Club’s, have resulted in discussions which have been very positive. “We need the support and assistance of these other clubs to make this large event happen” Smith said.
The week long NZ Silver Fern Rally, will utilise approximately 1500 km of high speed special stages, and will be the first time a major event of this type, has been held in the South Island since the days of the Heatway and Motogard Rallies, back in the 1970’s and 80’s.
End.
