Alice Takes Us on An Adventure to the
Land Down Under
Following on from the New Zealand
School of Dance’s very successful children's show Revolting
Rhymes is Alice in Downunderland the school’s latest
offering designed specifically for school aged
children.
This year Jane Pirani’s production of Alice in Downunderland takes the wacky characters from Lewis Carroll’s famous story Alice in Wonderland, and lands them in the magical forests and beaches of North Queensland. Jane Pirani is a freelance teacher/choreographer and originally choreographed this production for Townsville based contemporary dance company, Dance North, in 2001.
STORY
When Lewis Carroll wrote Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland over 100 years ago he must have known that the rabbit hole held a secret detour to the Antipathies… Ooops! Antipodes.
Alice in Downunderland looks imaginatively and comically at issues such as social justice, difference, behaviour, identity and a sense of place.
Alice in Downunderland encourages children to delve into their imaginations as they follow the quirky eccentricities of the Mad Hatter and Alice on their tropical adventure. Be a member of the jury at Alice’s trial … don’t call out too loudly though in case the Queen of Hearts puts you on trial with Alice.
Alice in Downunderland is a live performance with full stage lighting, sets, props and video projection.
Follow Alice on her adventure in the one and only public performance of this show that guarantees fun, fantasy and a flight into the imagination. Book now!!!
This production is supported by the New Zealand Community Trust.
