Hokitika’s Wet West Film Festival goes international!
The Wet West Film Festival confirms the first ten entries received for the January 2006 Festival are of a truly international flavour. Films received for the Hokitika festival are so far from nine countries, with two films from New Zealand. Interesting drama from the UK, Bangkok, Bermuda and Quebec entering the Short Film Award, and Austrian and Irish film in the Adventure and Expedition Award confirm the word’s out about the Wet West Film Festival worldwide! Festival organisers are keen to see more entries flood in.
With news being passed around from the 40 film makers involved last year, an active website, and targeted promotion, the Hokitika organisers are expecting growth in both numbers of films entered as well as audience numbers in January.
Festival Director Jo Kearns said: “It’s really encouraging to get eight international entries this early in the piece, with entries open until 7th November we know most films will arrive that week; anything coming in now is a bonus. And the overseas interest is really encouraging. Awards won last year by Canadian and German film makers help get the word out there, and that’s good news for the January audience too, it makes for great viewing.”
Providing an opportunity for first time film makers to be on screen beside seasoned professionals, the Wet West Film Festival is a chance to exchange ideas, meet new film makers and have a great experience on the wild West Coast!
As well, of course, as view a great variety of film all connected by the theme of water, interpreted into adventure films, conservation comment and drama, but all putting story telling to the fore. Hokitika is keen to welcome film makers and film buffs for the four day celebration of film and water, in all its forms, from 5 – 8 January 2006.
