Her family have departed. They have all departed. All of them. All Maori.
She is the last and now she too waits to depart.

It’s 2007, and what remains is set at Wellington’s International Departure’s Lounge.

A young woman is joined by three others, all from differing backgrounds, all there for their own reasons. Departing or among those who will remain. As their stories unfold, as the boarding call nears, a defiant lover arrives, bringing with him astonishing revelations of why her family and her people have departed.

In March 2005, and what remains (formerly titled as Lost, Again) was selected for workshopping at the Pasifika Playwrights Festival, in Auckland. Four months later, in July, and what remains and playwright Miria George (Te Arawa, Ngati Awa; Rarotonga, Atiu, Cook Islands) were invited to attend the prestigious World Interplay Festival, in Northern Queensland, Australia. World Interplay is an international festival for young playwrights. Miria was the first Maori or Pacific Islander to be invited to attend. While there, and what remains received critical feedback from a range of internationally renowned theatre and script practitioners.

Since returning from Australia, Miria has received an official invitation for and what remains to premiere internationally at the inaugural Pasifika Styles Festival, to be held at Cambridge, England, in October, 2006.

The play and what remains proudly boasts an internationally acclaimed production team featuring direction by Hone Kouka (The Prophet, Homefires, Waiora), lighting design by Jennifer Lal (Oho Ake, Have Car Will Travel, Mapaki), sound design by Steve Gallagher (Speer, Oho Ake, Insider’s Guide to Happiness) and costume design by Colin McLean (Strata, Awhi Tapu). and what remains also features the exceptional talents of actors Erina Daniels, Rina Patel and Sam Selliman.

Premiering at the City Art Gallery, Civic Square, Wellington, and what remains will show for a strictly limited four-night season, at 8pm, Wednesday, November 16, 2005, until Saturday, November 19, 2005. Tickets $20/$15
