Kiwi Crowned World Miss University
2005
Not since 1983 when Lorraine Downs brought home the title of Miss Universe, has a New Zealand woman won an international beauty pageant.
That is until Friday night, when former Miss Popularity contestant, 23-year-old Jade Collins won the 18th World Miss University Pageant in Seoul, Korea. Competing against 43 contestants from 42 countries, Collins wowed the audience, press and judges to become the latest Kiwi woman to claim the title of the world’s most intelligent and beautiful university student.
National franchise holder, filmmaker and Chairman of the recent DOCNZ International Documentary Film festival, Alex Lee said:
“I was quietly confident in our choice of Jade Collins as our national representative. Jade is intelligent and beautiful, with a great personality. She will be a great ambassador for New Zealand.”
Collins is a communications major at Auckland University of Technology and part-time model/actor. Lee, who recently produced the feature film “The Untitled Magic Movie” (AKA “The Magician”), in which Jade has a major role, believes that Collins is destined for great things in the film and television world.
As the World Miss University title-holder, Collins will visit troubled parts of the world for volunteer activities, as part of the organising committees peace mission, in between completing her studies.
Lee is hoping to score another world title shortly when he sends a representative to December 2005’s Miss Planet beauty pageant in Venezuela.
