Helping Hands for Hurricane Relief
- Hurricane Relief Charity Concert
Experience the music of New Orleans and the sounds of the American Deep South
(AUCKLAND) – 30 September 2005 – The Sky City Theatre in Auckland will host the Hurricane Relief Charity Concert – A celebration of New Orleans and the music of the American Deep South on Wednesday, November 2 from 6:30 - 9:00pm.
“Aucklanders have been very keen to do something to help. This is an opportunity for people to help by simply purchasing a ticket to the show and at the same time celebrate the musical culture of the American Deep South,” said organisers James Still and Jasmin Kemp. “This is a cultural evening not to be missed!” The line-up of entertainment includes a diverse range of talent, including:
- Al Young - "Authentic Delta Blues"
- Shayn Wills - "Southern Blues"
- Dixieland Band (TBC)
- Starlight - Cajun/Zydeco duo
- Ronnie Taylor - "The Real Deal" (TBC)
- JamesRAy Band - " Southern Hillbilly Rockin' Country"
All profits will be donated to Habitat for Humanity to assist in their efforts in the hurricane ravaged delta of the southern US.
“In response to the hurricanes that have devastated communities and lives on the Gulf Coast of the United States, Habitat for Humanity has launched an emergency appeal for funds and volunteers to help families in the affected areas recover and rebuild,” states Elgin Graham from Habitat for Humanity.
Musician James RAy says he had to help organise an event to help with the hurricane relief efforts back in the US. “Being from the southern part of the States and feeling very sympathetic for folks back home I couldn’t in good conscience sit back and do nothing."
“It just makes sense to stage a concert to help the people of a city and area best-known for its music."
Tickets from Ticketek go on sale 11 Oct. ($30 general admission - service fees may apply)
