17 Super Volunteer Coaches Announced

The 17 regional winners in the 2005 Wattie's Volunteer Coach of the Year Awards have been named! In an unprecedented response, more than 3100 nominations were received over a 6-week period from all around the country.

The heartfelt responses in the record number of entries show just how valuable these dedicated individuals are to kids and communities everywhere. The entries told special stories of enthusiasm and support, and Wattie's and SPARC (Sport and Recreation New Zealand) are proud to be part of the awards.

Nominees were judged by New Zealand's 17 Regional Sports Trusts, and each regional winner was presented with the title at a regional awards event along with great prizes, including a year's supply of Wattie's Baked Beans!

Now Wattie's and SPARC are pleased to name these 17 regional winners for the Wattie's Volunteer Coach of the Year awards, 2005.

The 17 winning regional entries now go before the national judging panel. The panel consists of chair Mike McHugh, coaching consultant SPARC, who is also head coach of the NZ Tall Ferns; Don Tricker, world cup winning former Black Sox Coach; Adine Wilson, Silver Fern's captain; Jeni Pearce, sports and health dietitian and Wattie's Marketing Director Mike Pretty.

The national Wattie's Volunteer Coach of the Year and two runners up will be named at a special awards event in Auckland on November 11.
