Get Sailing This Summer In Wellington
WARNING – the Sailing Bug is infectious this summer!
With summer fast approaching, what better time to experience Wellington’s specialty – the wind!
The Sailing Academy at the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club is a non-profit organisation which has been serving the community of Wellington for 12 years, teaching people to sail in the unique environment of Wellington Harbour. To see the view from the water while experiencing the thrill of Wellington’s wind gives a whole new perspective to the city.
The opportunity is here in the country’s capital city to start a new sport, if not a new lifestyle altogether, by ‘getting into’ sailing. The Sailing Academy offers a range of practical on-the-water courses to take you from little or no sailing experience to a level where you are competent and confident to crew for others. It forms an excellent foundation from which to launch yourself into racing at the weekends in Wellington Harbour or set your sights on becoming your own skipper on a charter boat in the Sounds, if not more distant shores.
Sailing also offers a unique environment for team building. Many organisations put their employees to the challenge of a day of racing the Academy’s two identical training yachts. Communication and teamwork are vital elements, not just in the work environment, but on the water too.
Academy courses get outstanding reviews from our graduates, proof that the sailing bug is alive and well and very infectious! From the horse’s mouth…
- I learnt heaps
about sailing and found the course exactly what I needed as
a beginner and am looking forward to doing more sailing and
more courses. In all it was exhilarating, challenging and
bloody fantastic!
- Just perfect!
- Have been
involved in a lot of outdoor education. Easily one of the
best ‘team’ exercises I have seen.
- This was a superb
course taught by an outstanding teacher. One of the best
experiences I’ve ever
had!
