Talented Christchurch Student Spreads Safer Roads Message

Hugh Mitton, a Year 11 student from Christchurch Boys High, was congratulated as the Senior winner in the AA Safer Roads Design-a-Poster Competition at an award presentation held this Tuesday.

Alan Turner, AA Chairman for the Canterbury / West Coast region, attended the presentation - held at the Christchurch AA Centre - to award Hugh his certificate and prize pack.

Mr Turner says Hugh’s poster communicates the Safer Roads message in a very clever way and makes the reader stop and think.

“Hugh has shown he has great artistic and design talent, as well as an ability to think outside the square. He took a photo of a local road, manipulated it, and used an intelligent concept to produce a winning poster,” he says.

Earlier this year the AA asked intermediate and secondary students to spread the road safety message by designing an informative poster based around the aims of the AA Safer Roads Project.

The AA is planning to utilise Hugh’s poster to broaden the public’s knowledge of the Safer Roads message by having it displayed in AA Centres nationwide.

The AA's Safer Roads Project is a nationwide, community-based project focussed on making New Zealand's roads safer and more 'forgiving'. The AA’s ultimate aim is to have Safer Drivers in Safer Cars on Safer Roads.
