Hitting the Highway - Take Three - on Maori Television
TE HAERENGA - the ultimate Maori travelling road show series - is back in the saddle with 13 brand new stories of inspirational and talented Maori on tour.
Premiering its third season on Maori Television this Tuesday December 13 at 8.00 PM, the series is produced by Butobase and centres on Maori participating in tours throughout Aotearoa and internationally.
Each episode charts an emotional and physical journey by an individual or group as they travel on tour - from showcasing Maori talent and ambition to going behind-the-scenes to see the logistics of organising a group trip to uncovering the complications and triumphs that take place along the way.
In the first episode of the new series, the crew goes behind-the-scenes with poet and folk jazz musician, Hinemoana Baker, as she tours the North Island. Hinemoana's tour becomes an emotional journey as she heads to her flood-devastated hometown of Whakatane for an emotional reunion with her father.
Further in the series other high-achieving Maori groups and individuals are profiled including the Tall Ferns basketball team (Tues Dec 20), hip hop/jazz fusion band Open Souls (Tues Dec 27), ice hockey team South Auckland Swarm (Tues Jan 3), Northland taekwondo team Okaihau (Tues Jan 10), Bay of Islands hip hop dance group Potiki Crew (Tues Jan 17), the Kaupapa Waka team on the way to the opening of the Toi Maori exhibition in San Francisco (Tues Jan 24), Napier-based fashion designer Makarita Paku (Tues Jan 31), Toi Whakaari graduate Marama Emery (Tues Feb 7) and many more.c
