The Meandering Summer Lunch

The Meandering Summer Lunch

Saturday 21 January 2006

Wellington Anniversary Weekend

A unique feature of the Martinborough wine village is its uncommon closeness to the winemakers and owners of the vineyards. Share their passion for the wines and the region over a relaxed lunch and meander through family owned boutique vineyards.

The excitement begins in the Martinborough Square on Saturday morning with a glass of bubbles. The luncheon will be hosted by owners Russell & Suzann of Claddagh, Kaye & John of Vynfields, John and Katherine of Te Hera and Margaret and Tim of Coney Wines amongst their vines at each location.

Vynfields owners Kaye McAulay and John Bell say they are looking forward to their lunch with Il Casino cooking Pappardelle with Tuscan style wild boar ragout. "The dish is a perfect match for our Gold medal Pinot noir 2003. A day of pure escapism with superb wine and food – what more could you ask for?" said Kaye McAulay of Vynfields.

Claddagh Vineyards Winery was destroyed by fire in September this year, but owner Suzann Pearless says amazingly the Wine Garden Courtyard area was totally untouched and was the centrepiece of a fantastic Toast Martinborough Festival, and now the Meandering Summer Lunch. Claddagh features spicy coconut salmon in banana leaves with fresh pineapple salsa as their main dish.

Enjoy an entrée at the first three and a dessert at the fourth; returning to the Square at 5pm. Numbers are restricted to 180 tickets to ensure a personal relaxed dining experience.

Tickets $90 per person:
