Superbikes Head for Timaru

Following last weekend’s atrocious conditions at Teretonga, the field for the SsangYong New Zealand Road Race Championships will be hoping for finer weather at Levels Raceway, outside Timaru for this weekend’s (January 14/15) for Round Four.

In the Superbikes, Hamilton’s Andrew Stroud takes a 36 point lead into the round over three time Australian Champion Shaun Giles, followed another 19 points back by NZTT winner Ray Clee (Kumeu), all three are riding Suzukis. Hard on the heels are the Honda pairing of Jared Love (Hamilton) and Dean Fulton (Nelson) and fellow Australian Scott Charlton on another Suzuki.

In the 600 Sports Production class we have not only a mix of experience, but also a full spread of manufacturers.

The points table is lead by the Suzuki pairing of Palmerston North’s Craig Shirriffs on 185 points with Stroud 37 points adrift, they are followed 17 points further back by Wellington’s Derek McAdam on his Kawasaki.

This field of experience is hotly chased by youngsters Sam Smith (Waiuku) on his Yamaha and Hayden Fitzgerald (Pukekohe) on his Honda.

The other classes to also be contested at the weekend’s event are 125 Grand Prix, 250 Grand Prix, Formula Three and Sidecars
