USA Music Group For Elements Festival

An American music group that discovered Porirua’s Festival of the Elements by surfing the web, has joined the upcoming Festival’s list of attractions.

The Festival this week secured Wiikaane Inka for the Festival on Waitangi Day, February 6th.

Festival Coordinator Margaret Armour says Wiikaane Inka will bring the unique sounds of the Native American and Andean flutes to the Festival.

The group includes Nelson Hototo Salazar, representing the Native peoples of the Siksika Nation and North America, and Paolo Jativa Orosco, originally from Quito, Ecuador.

Nelson played traditional Flute as a child, and has playing and teaching for most of his adult life. He has performed in North America, South America and Europe.

Paolo is also a Master Craftsman who has taught music theory and technique seminars throughout the U.S.A, France, Germany, Poland and Colombia.

Ms Armour says the group is coming to New Zealand for performances at other events this year, and when they saw the Festival of the Elements website, they contacted her.

It’s the first time the Festival has had a website.

“It’s proving a great success, providing information for both the public and the media about the Festival, which is now in its 14th year,” Ms Armour says.

The Festival website, which includes the full Festival programme, is at www.elementsfestival.co.nz
