New Music Acts Announced For Splore O6
Up-and-coming New York MC Jean Grae joins New York hip hopper Talib Kweli on stage at Splore 06 next month.
Grae was to play Big Day Out in Auckland, but is now featuring exclusively in New Zealand with Kweli at Splore 06. Talib Kweli and Jean Grae perform on the opening night of the three day festival which takes place from 17-19 February at Auckland’s Tapapakanga Regional Park.
“We are absolutely thrilled to announce Jean Grae performing with Talib Kweli – this will truly be a set to remember for a long time,” says Splore 06 festival director Amanda Wright.
Based in New York, Jean Grae was recently described by Rolling Stone as “the best kept secret on New York’s indie hip hop scene”.
Also announced for Splore 06 are new New Zealand acts including popular band Goldenhorse, together with Sugarlicks, Little Bushmen and Max Maxwell and Carmel Courtney, plus a whole host of DJs who will keep the music going through the night and into the morning.
Splore 06 – a three day multi-discipline arts and music festival – melds a strong music line-up together with visual arts, performance art, workshops and film screenings.
Confirmed acts for the festival include Scottish performers The Cuban Brothers, UK funk/hip hop duo The Nextmen, UK DJ Spikey Tee, US funk DJs Fort Knox Five and world number one VJ act Hexstatic.
New Zealand acts confirmed for Splore 06 include multi-award winning Wellington band Fat Freddy’s Drop, electronica duo Pitch Black, the multi-talented Sola Rosa, Kora, Module, Rhian Sheehan, Ladi6, Whirimako Black, Hollie Smith, Turnaround DJs and DJs Philippa and Nic D.
Splore is New Zealand’s only three-day live-in festival and as well as music, it also features performance – including theatre, dance, comedy and performance art – visual arts, sculpture trails, film screenings and workshops.
This is the sixth Splore festival and this year marks a change of venue to Tapapakanga Regional Park, located just one hour south-east of central Auckland, set on the Firth of Thames and nestled at the base of the Hunua Ranges.
Tickets for Splore 06 are on sale from Ticketmaster. Children under 13 years are free.
