Pluto are ready to rock Auckland Zoo

Rock and roll band Pluto is set to shake up the Coca-Cola ZooMusic stage on Saturday 11 February, injecting their trademark harmonies and melodic power into the evening concert series.

The gig kicks off with an acoustic pop-rock set from the multi-talented musician and ex-Eight band member, Chris Cope. Lucid 3 follow with their appealing contemporary sound encompassing blues, pop, folk, rock, funk and ambient trip hop. Five-piece group Pluto has produced two critically acclaimed albums - 2005's Pipeline Under the Ocean and RedLightSyndrome, released in 2001.

The rock n roll renegades have also developed a healthy reputation as an energetic and unpredictable live act, demonstrated during their recent blistering set on the Big Day Out's main stage.

As well as hearing hit singles like Long White Cross, Dance Stamina, Perfectly Evil and Hey Little, Pluto's ZooMusic audience will also be treated to a few new tracks - a limited opportunity for fans before the boys take a short writing break next month to continue developing their third album. Since the Coca-Cola ZooMusic summer concert series began in January, thousands have enjoyed talented Kiwi bands performing in the zoo's lush surrounds.

Upcoming concerts between now and 5 March feature Nesian Mystik (this Saturday 4 February, supported by Minuit and King Kapisi), The Black Seeds (with The Exiles) on 17 February, Don McGlashan & the Seven Sisters (supported by Little Bushmen) on 25 February, and Che Fu (with Ladi6) on 5 March. Proceeds from the seven concerts will help the zoo carry out its essential conservation work with native and overseas species.

Now established in its third year, the series also aims to attract new audiences to the zoo and to show it is a place of both recreation and conservation. Concert-goers are invited to make a day of it, come early, and explore the zoo with family and friends (please note that the immediate stage area around the Band Rotunda will be closed off in the afternoon for set-up and sound-checks).

Pack a picnic, or purchase dinner and refreshments from the licensed Darwin's Café or the bar and BBQs set up near the Band Rotunda. A range of delicious food hampers can also be pre-ordered from Darwin's Café (phone 09 360 5261), and Weta Café will be open late. Coca-Cola ZooMusic tickets can be pre-purchased at the zoo (phone 09 360 3805) or through Ticketek.

With limited capacity, and tickets selling fast, we recommend advance booking. Tickets: Adults $20, Children (4-14 yrs) $10, and $50 for a three-concert multi-ticket or family pass (2 adults, 2 children).
