Soul Shake Down looms large for capital
Pack your picnic, distil a drink, sort your sunglasses and get ready for the highlight of Wellington’s alternative creative calendar.
The Radio Active 89FM One Love 2006 ‘Soul Shake Down Party’ kicks off at noon this Monday, Waitangi Day and features a line up of Aotearoa’s top roots/reggae artists and our finest contemporary dub ambassadors.
This year Radio Active 89FM brings you The Black Seeds, headlining the event and performing new tracks from their upcoming and highly anticipated fourth album. Joining The Black Seeds is our finest example of N.Z roots/reggae, the renowned Cornerstone Roots from Raglan.
To spice up the summer, Active ran a competition to find a new act to complete the line up. Congratulations go out to Dub Idol winners Pacific Bass Culture who join the stage for their debut performance.
In total support of this awesome celebration, Sounds Almighty consisting of Radio Active DJs Topknot, Prince Alexander, Duke Willis and Ras Twig who have been keeping the true Jamaican bass culture alive in Wellington for the last eight years, team up with one of Aotearoa’s most prominent MCs, The Mighty Asterix.
Music is but one ingredient for the afternoon. One Love is a family-friendly event, providing rides for the kids, munchies for the hungry and an awesome variety of community crafts and stalls.
From a relatively small beginning with only a few hundred people attending, Radio Active 89FM’s One Love has grown into a massive celebration involving over fifteen thousand. The great vibe, superb music and enthusiastic crowds just keep growing every year.
