Top Half Kartsport Series Kicks Off this Weekend

With the CIK Trophy of New Zealand presented by Karcher and Auckland's City of Sails meetings over for another year karters in the top half of the North Island have the annual Top Half Series to focus on.

This Sunday the Bay of Plenty Kart Club hosts the first round of the 2006 Top Half Series at its Fagan's Valley facility north-west of Te Puke with subsequent rounds of the series at Tokoroa (under lights) in March, Auckland in April and the final at Hamilton in July.

The long-rrunning Top Half Series involves clubs and their members from Whangarei, Auckland (the Auckland and Mt Wellington Clubs), Rotorua, Hamilton, Taumarunui, Taupo, Eastern Bay of Plenty, Bay of Plenty and Tokoroa, and caters for all the main Junior and Senior classes.

As well as individual competition the series has a popular interclub element.

If last weekend's City of Sails meeting in Auckland is used as a form guide action in the Open class will be between perennial class combatants Ryan Grant and Jason Lee.

Kane Taylor, Charles Hoare and Simon Evans look good in Rotax Max Light, Bradley Tyrrell and Lydia Dickinson in Senior 100cc Yamaha Light and Graeme Smyth in Formula Junior.

Smyth and Richard Moore look set to fight it out in Junior 100cc Yamaha and in Junior 100cc Restricted Nick Cassidy, Arie Hutton and NZ #1 Mitchell Evans are each in with a chance.

Cadet is hard to pick but Aaron Wilson was the winner at the City of Sails meeting.
