The Great New Zealand Letterbox Competition

Does your letterbox have that something special? Does it stop passersby in their tracks?

The Great New Zealand Letterbox Competition is underway and the search is on for all letterboxes worthy of the title of New Zealand’s top box!

There are three different sections: urban, rural and schools, with more than three thousand dollars in prizes to be won. Entries close 10 March 2006.

The inaugural competition is being held by organisers of the Royal Easter Show, on from 13-18 April 2006 at the Auckland Showgrounds, with support from rural couriers Coural, PMP Mail and Weekend Gardener magazine.

All winning letterboxes and finalists will be on display throughout the show, with visitors voting for the overall winner, the Greatest New Zealand Letterbox, to be announced onsite on Easter Monday.

Event organiser Robin Hill says the competition is about celebrating good old-fashioned kiwi ingenuity, innovation, creativity and practicality.

“There are so many great letterboxes out there all around New Zealand, from works of art, to ingenius, to downright hilarious.

“With up to $1,000 for the overall winner, there’s some good prize money up for grabs. So if you think your letterbox has what it takes, make sure you enter, it’s really easy.”

Entries must include a photo and letter, maximum 50 words, explaining the inspiration behind the design. Post entries to: Great New Zealand Letterbox Competition, Royal Easter Show, PO Box 26-014, Epsom, Auckland.
