Massive Mural To Honour The Mighty Of Manukau –
As Painted By You!

A magnificent two-metre high mural honouring the heroes of Manukau is to be painted by graffiti artists at TelstraClear Pacific.

TelstraClear Pacific is inviting anyone in the Counties-Manukau area to submit their designs and five winners will be chosen to have their works included in the mural, with the help of well-known artists Otis Frizzell and Dan Tippett.

Chief executive Richard Jeffery said the mural would be a key feature of The Lion Foundation Hall of Champions and a talking point for years to come.

“This is a great opportunity for young local artists to work collaboratively with two renowned graffiti artists to produce a high-visibility artwork for Counties-Manukau.

“The theme for the mural will be celebrating local excellence and achievement so it will depict some of the artistic, sporting, entertainment, business and community champions this region has produced.”

Jeffery said the community would have the opportunity to vote on who should be featured on the mural.

The Lion Foundation chief executive David Conroy said the “Make Your Mark” mural competition was a wonderful way to involve the community in the Hall Of Champions.

“Having local people deciding who should be on the mural, and contributing to the final work, will produce an outstanding result for Counties-Manukau.

“This approach perfectly underlines The Lion Foundation’s ongoing commitment to working with and giving back to the local communities in which it operates.”

Frizzell and Tippett said they were both excited about the opportunity to work with Manukau’s young artists.

“It’s fantastic that organisations like TelstraClear Pacific and The Lion Foundation recognise graffiti as a vibrant, relevant and expressive art form.

“This will be a great learning experience for the five winners who will get to enhance their creativity and techniques while working on a major art work for Counties-Manukau,” they said.

Artists need to submit their designs by 5pm on 4 April with work on the mural to start in May. Winners will also receive limited edition t-shirts and iPod Nanos.
