Vbase Supports Charity Ball Season Media Release
13th March 2006
The charity ball season, with all its glitz and glamour, gets under way this month and Vbase is playing a major role as Cantabrians “put on the Ritz” to raise money for charity. The Christchurch Convention Centre, managed by V-Base, is the venue for these elegant events which are highlights in the city’s social calendar.
“Vbase fully supports the charity ball season and we are pleased to be able to contribute to these worthy causes by providing this superb venue,” says recently appointed CEO for the four Vbase venues, Bryan Pearson. “I’m sure Cantabrians will enter into the spirit of the season, support the charities, bid at the auctions, and raise significant funds.”
With its custom designed adaptable function rooms and cordon bleu food and beverage service, and inner city location the Convention Centre is the ideal venue.. “It’s perfect,” says Michele Wattez Fundraising & Event Co-ordinator for Cholmondeley Children’s Home. “It can accommodate any number from 300 to 1,000 and is just right for a high profile fundraiser.”
The ball season starts with a St Patrick’s Day Gala Ball on 17 March to raise funds for the new YMCA Bishopdale Recreation and Youth Centre. There will be Irish cheer, music from the Dublin Street Band, a sumptuous feast, and an auction of high value items, plus prizes for the best-dressed lady and man. “The new Centre will be a wonderful asset for the Christchurch community, with two squash and two basketball courts, a health and fitness centre, meeting rooms, physiotherapy rooms and childcare facilities,” says Charmaine Millett. “The YMCA is a charitable trust. Through our programmes with people of all backgrounds we try to make a positive difference in people’s lives and communities.”
Cholmondeley Children's Home’s "Cinderella Ball", on 8 April, promises a trip to the world of fairy tales. Guests may dress in their Finest, or Fancy dress, and will have the opportunity to win a jewellery prize supplied by Julian Harding Lifestyles Jewellery. Guests will be treated to an exceptional stage show by Chante et Danse, can bid at a small art auction, and dance the night away to the sound of the Bubble Men. All profits from the ball will go directly towards providing quality residential care and family support for children in need.
The Cancer Society Ball, which is now into its 17th year, is almost legendary among Christchurch ballgoers and is noted for its glitzy sophistication. Ever popular, tickets are traditionally snapped up within a week of being released and many patrons book tickets from year to year in case they miss out. This year it will be held on Saturday 10th June and the theme is Grande Italiano, with a design by theme specialist Patricia Proctor, it promises to be an evening with plenty of sparkle and glamour.
The 10th Rotary Children’s Charity Ball -”Kids should have a Ball” will be held on 19th August. This year Rotary welcomes Emirates and Minx Dining Room and Bar to its group of sponsors and a lucky ticket holder will win Emirates business class tickets for two to Europe. “We pride ourselves on providing a ball that offers fine wine, fine food and fine music,” says Ball Chairman Neil Blanchfield. Mista Meana will provide the music, Frankie Stevens is MC, and Danny Elliot from Sydney will do a stage show. Over the last 9 years the Rotary Club of Christchurch has contributed half a million dollars to children’s charities in Christchurch.
