Lock in One More Time, Eddie
WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE
LOCK IN ONE MORE TIME, EDDIE
Monday 10th April, 7.30pm on Prime
Join Eddie McGuire as he bids an emotional farewell as host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire after seven years, Monday 10th April, 7.30pm on Prime.
More than 600 contestants have sat opposite quizmaster Eddie in the hope of winning one million dollars and fulfilling their dreams. Along the way, the phrase “Lock it in, Eddie” has become a commonplace expression.
Eddie, who relinquished his role to take up the position of Chief Executive Officer for the Nine Network, has hosted all 292 episodes of the program since its debut on April 18, 1999.
Over the past seven years, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (WWTBAM) has put 6808 questions to 2879 contestants playing Fastest Finger, with 623 going through to the Hot Seat to face a possible 15 questions from Eddie on their way to winning $1 million.
To date, $28,595,000 in prize money has been given away, with $2,979,000 going to 67 charities.
Only two of the 623 contestants have gone all the way so far. After a tension-packed six years, Rob “Coach” Fulton broke the drought by winning the million for the first time – and less than four weeks later, Martin Flood followed suit.
In Australia on Monday 3rd April, an average 1.343 million viewers watched McGuire say an emotional goodnight for the last time from the host’s chair.
Since the airing of Eddie’s last show in Australia, Channel Nine have decided to put WWTBAM into a rest period for the next couple of months. Contestant registration lines will also be closing for this period. WWTBAM will most likely return in the second half of the year at which time contestant registration lines also re-open.
Viewers can be assured that any registrations in the past week are legitimate and will be held until WWTBAM is back in production.
