We fired up the BBQ, where the bloody hell are you

We’ve fired up the BBQ, So where the bloody hell are you?

Tourism Australia Launches Australia’s Longest Lunch in New Zealand as part of G’DAY NZ Australia Week

With the launch of the inaugural G’DAY NZ Australia Week 2006, 23 – 29 April, Tourism Australia will be holding the first ever Australian Longest Lunch in New Zealand on Friday 28 April.

The lunch, which will be set on a large table for over 500 guests in the Auckland Viaduct, promises to be a unique and exciting showcase of gourmet food, wine, beer and lifestyle.

“We thought this would be a great way for Australians and New Zealanders to celebrate our spirit of mateship while indulging in a uniquely Australian gourmet experience”, says Tourism Australia Regional Manager, Vito Anzelmi.

“As trans-Tasman neighbours we should share the experiences each country has to offer, and it’s about time we invited the Kiwis over for a BBQ to showcase Australian cuisine,” he says.

Thanks to the Aussie Butcher, guests will be served an array of top-notch Australian cuisine, including crocodile, kangaroo, barramundi fillets, gourmet sausages and Aussie king prawns, in a BBQ-inspired food festival that will challenge typical perceptions of Australia food. Wine and beer will be showcased by Lindemans and Crown Lager.

MC Tony Veitch and several guest chefs will take diners on a culinary journey through the best tastes Australia has to offer, providing ongoing commentary throughout the meal.

As well as great food, the Longest Australian lunch in New Zealand will also feature the award winning aboriginal dance troupe ‘Descendance’ who will entertain guests with a dramatic display of Australian tribal dance.

Tickets are on sale through Ticketek and cost $75 (includes all food, beverages and entertainment). The Longest Australian Lunch in New Zealand will start at midday and run until 2.30pm on Friday 28 April at Te Wero Island on the Auckland Viaduct.
