NZ Music Month live at Auckland City Libraries
Auckland City is inviting Aucklanders to come and celebrate NZ Music Month at Auckland City Libraries. For the third year running, Auckland City Libraries is hosting NZ Music Month “Live at the Library” and is presenting a musical programme full of talented artists performing a wide range of original music styles.
Over 45 musical performances ranging from rap, rock, indie, pop, jazz, to folk and classical will run throughout May at the Central City Library and various Community Libraries. The Panmure and Mt Albert Community Libraries will also be running a talent quest for kids who will have the opportunity to win some great prizes.
While library customers will not only be listening to some wonderful live music, they too will have the opportunity to win prizes. A prize of $500 worth of Marbecks music vouchers is in the offing for those who borrow five music items (CDs, sheet music, videos, DVDs, books) from any Auckland City Library during the month of May.
A special highlight of NZ music month will be a ticketed evening concert at 6pm on Friday 12 May featuring musicians from the Auckland Philharmonia Young Achievers programme. Tickets can be purchased from the Central City Library First Floor inquiries desk, or purchased through our website via a secure link.
Also featured in NZ music month are artists from our Made in Auckland collection. These artists include The Muse – a female band that produces a “cruisy, chillhouse fusion of music”. The Muse will perform at the Grey Lynn Community Library on Saturday 20 May at 12.30pm; Decortica – a sophisticated three piece band who have come up with some stunning original music in the same vein as Jeff Buckley.

The Central City Library also has a wealth of music right at your fingertips. During music month, don’t forget to check out our 26,000 plus collection of CDs, DVDs, videos and sheet music. Our specialist music staff will help you find what you are looking for.
