The semi-final of the 2006 NZ Chinese New Talent Singing Championship has finally concluded. There are 21 people among the nitty-nine contestants entering the New Zealand final at the Aotea Centre on 29th of April.

NZ Chinese New Talent Singing Championship, also known by New Zealand media as ‘a Chinese version of NZ Idol’, has always been well supported by Chinese teenagers among New Zealand. Since 2004 with the co-ordination of the Hong Kong TVB Jade Satellite (TVBJ), this event has attracted hundreds of young people throughout the nation. Nitty-nine contestants have turned up in this year’s NZ Chinese New Talent Singing Championship.

The semi-final was spread between 1st and 2nd of April. The seven judges of the semi-final are made up by experts ranging from areas of beauty fashion, musicians and Hong Kong Star Anderson. There are many first timers but also participants from previous years. Contestants were required to select their own songs; however, they were also challenged to demonstrate other talents. According to Anderson, a modern artist has to know more than just singing, they are also required to face.

Nonetheless, most contestants were able to face up the challenge by performing traditional folk song or modern dances. This was not included in the marking of judges.

Anderson has also pointed out that even though many contestants has great voices, however, as they are too concentrated on duplicating the original singer, thus, losing their personal style, hence has lost the opportunity to be in the final.
