100% NZ Music - Radio Active 89FM

New Zealand music in May ain’t nothing new for Welli DYI independent Radio Active 89FM who serve up their annual 100% NZ Music Week and other musical treats this month.

Radio Active is dedicating an entire week to spinning 100% Aotearoa NZ tunes non-stop, night and day on the airwaves in the last week of May, a tradition that the station has upheld for 16 years.

Radio Active will also dig behind the music scene with a provocative Music Forum lunchtime series hosted by DJ SAM60. Independent and ‘industry’ music heads will be dropping on the mic to debate the merits of the music business and government ‘bling’, digital downloads, dub vs. indie rock (which is the sound that best
represents Welli or is it just seasonal?) and to offer practical advice. Listeners are invited to txt and email Active with questions to add spark to the Music Forum.

The month of May at Active also features two weeks of Live On Drive sessions by local musicians. The champion sounds rocking it live at the Victoria Street building include indie heros Connan and the Mockasins with their last ‘live’ gig before kicking off overseas, Luke Buda, Odessa, Ryan Prebble & Band and electronic whizzkid Module.

The Live To Air series is produced by Scott Nicolson from Radio Active, who says “our focus this year is on the singer-songwriter tip”

Another addition to May calendar is the premier of the Active DJ Podcast, a selection of in house talent revealing the secret of their signature sound and how to pick New Zealand music of tomorrow. The Podcast will be available for download exclusively on the stations website that streams the goodness, www.radioactive.co.nz .
