Indian Extravaganza to Screen on Triangle Television

Bigger and better than ever, Triangle Television's Mr India NZ Contest promises to be a night of colour, glamour and culture, with Bollywood style to burn. It takes place this month at the Logan Campbell Centre, with 16 finalists battling it out for the coveted title.

Triangle Television's Mr India NZ contest is one of the most spectacular events on Auckland's cultural calendar and this year's contest will be no exception.
The show begins at 7.30 pm on Saturday 20 May at the Logan Campbell Centre in Greenlane, and will be filmed by a Triangle Television crew.

The 16 finalists – all single Indian men – will strut their stuff in gear ranging from audacious to traditional. While last year's entrants were mostly students, this year's include a greater number of mature, professional men, says event organiser Prakash Mani.

Following the announcement of the eight category awards - Mr Photogenic, Mr Talent, Mr Best Smile, Mr Best Dressed, Mr Physique, Mr Friendship, Mr Charity and Mr Popularity – the judges will announce the top three placings sponsored by Garuda Indonesia.

On the judging panel are Triangle Television's CEO Jim Blackman; Ann Pala, President of Waitakere Ethnic Association and founder of Nix Crew; AJ, CEO of Merge Magazine; Miss Fiji New Zealand 2005, Edith Rogers; and, of course, last year's gorgeous Mr India, Neil Chauhan.

Voting for Mr Popularity is open to the public via the event's website at www.mrindianz.com.

Entertainment at the event is multicultural, with The MC Girls and their brilliant Bollywood routine; Ravi Shetty, "The Golden Voice" of Auckland's Indian community; and Keshia, winner of many hearts as a finalist in NZ Idol. Five dance groups will perform including Interfusion Hype – combining Maori, Polynesian, European and Indian – and Nachela Punjab, World International Bhangra winners.

Other highlights include Anita Patil's solo traditional Indian dance of welcome, the pakeha boys of Dance Studio (winners of various hip hop and street dancing contests) who will bring their inimitable style to the occasion, and more irresistible Bollywood magic from Bollywood Groove.

The contestants are raising money for community road safety, collecting money for the Road Safety Trust at busy shopping centres. The finalist who raises the most money will be the winner of the Mr Charity title.
