Rhombus LIVE with special guests - May 26
Rhombus LIVE with special guests The Silverbeats and Pacific Bass Culture Sandwiches Friday 26 May 2006
NEW ZEALAND MUSIC MONTH TIX:$20
Rhombus have already firmly
established themselves as interesting and compelling members
of the local music scene.
They are a diverse yet well connected crew combining hip hop mcees, tech production, reggae and world music influences and deep soulful vocals.
With a total membership of 9, Rhombus come together in the studio and on stage like all bands do combining all these influences, but in this case with so many WOW factors.
The two core producer-members of Rhombus are still there in Thomas Voyce and Simon Rycroft, with manager Koa Williams now taking on a production role too, while satellite members/vocalists Imon Starr, MC Mana, MC Antsman, Lisa Tomlins, Deva Mahal (Imon's sister) all contribute large smearings of talent.
Last years“Future Reference”, the long-awaited, much anticipated follow up to their best-selling 2002 debut album "Bass Player" sees Rhombus exploring new sonic territory while keeping one foot firmly in the NZ roots field which they among others helped establish.
Things have changed in a fairly dramatic manner with that sound since then, with both Fat Freddy's Drop and the late, lamented Trinity Roots delivering albums that pushed the genre into more abstract, and quite conversely, more commercially successful territory.
Rhombus represents a constantly evolving tour de force and guest artists bring their own flavours to add to the mix. Each performance is full of positive energy with the ability to engage their audience is second to none.
Rhombus will be performing tracks from both albums plus a few unreleased versions and remixes.
