Basketball NZ teams-up with Eventfinder

Basketball NZ teams-up with Eventfinder to promote Tall Blacks

Basketball New Zealand has teamed-up with Eventfinder to promote basketball games across all levels throughout New Zealand, beginning with the Jeep International Series between the Tall Blacks and Australian Boomers.

Basketball New Zealand is the latest addition to Eventfinder’s client portfolio, which includes national organisations in sports (New Zealand Soccer, Bike New Zealand), music (EMI), culture (New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, NBR New Zealand Opera, Royal New Zealand Ballet), as well as one-off events like Air New Zealand Fashion Week.

Basketball New Zealand marketing manager Andrew Alleway said: “We were looking for a more effective media platform to get the word out about the Jeep International Series against the Boomers, so decided to partner with Eventfinder.

“Print and electronic advertising are expensive when you consider the number of games we want to promote. The web is an obvious choice for us and Eventfinder provides the services we require,” Mr Alleway said.

Eventfinder allows individuals, businesses and organisations to list events, and provides a user-friendly website for the wider public to browse for and find events.

Eventfinder will also support Basketball New Zealand by providing a live content feed to the BBNZ website of basketball events from around the country.

Receiving syndicated content from Eventfinder will reduce costs and manual processes for Basketball New Zealand, as basketball games or tournaments listed by other organisations, such as schools and regional associations, will appear automatically on the BBNZ website.

By providing a live content feed, Basketball New Zealand can keep its own website constantly updated with any additions or changes to games without any technical overhead,” said Eventfinder chief executive Michael Turner.

The partnership between Basketball New Zealand and Eventfinder will have a positive impact on the sport across all age groups and all regions.

“Many games and tournaments, like the Under 23s, don’t receive any coverage because there just isn’t the budget for it,” said Mr Alleway. “We can now publicise these tournaments on Eventfinder and promote basketball at the grass roots level. This is something we simply couldn’t afford to do using print or electronic advertising.

“We’ll be adding the remaining NBL fixtures, as well as the WNBL, CBL and the Tall Black series against Qatar in August.”

Eventfinder’s content syndication service will also be available to other organisations, including tourism operators, regional councils and sporting trusts.

“Many organisations don’t have the budget or manpower to keep an updated list of current events on their websites,” said Mr Turner.

“We can provide organisations with current event listings and so free up valuable staff to work on more productive activities, instead of sourcing and maintaining event information. Organisations can keep an updated calendar of events on their websites without having to do any of the legwork.”

Mr Turner said web users want current, relevant information about events.
“And they want it now! They’re a demanding audience with high expectations, and rightly so.”
